Looking along Longford & Exhall's up platform towards Nuneaton with the booking office at the end on the right. When the station was first opened in 1850, the length of trains were short and consequently the platforms of the station were correspondingly short. The increase in traffic saw longer trains being formed by additional and longer carriages resulting in both platforms being extended to accommodate them. The slope of the original brick built platform is evident beneath the timber platform on the left which was known to be erected sometime after 1902 and before 1912 as can be seen in the maps seen in images 'lnwr_le3418' and 'lnwr_le3421'. The station's up platform was accessed via a pathway leading down to Station Road (which ran from Longford Road along the Coventry Canal before a 90° right turn took you to the bridge) and via steps from the station's down platform to Woodshires Road, the bridge being the boundary between the two roads.
