Close up showing the basic timber buildings provided by the LNWR on both Longford & Exhall station's platforms. On the down platform on the left an outside gentlemen's toilet has been provided with a small general waiting room next to it. In front of the toilet are a set of steps to be used by passengers either alighting from or accessing a carriage. The platforms of early stations were built at a height suitable for early railway carriages, these having been modelled on stage coaches with steps descending to road level. As carriages became longer they required deeper frames and wheels mounted on bogies all of which raised the height of the carriage floor by a considerable amount (as can be seen by the height of the steps). The lamps are gas lit which reflects the fact the station was located adjacent to housing which resulted in gas being provided by Coventry Corporation.
