LNWR 3P 4-4-0 George Fifth class No 82 'Charles Dickens' is seen standing at Tamworth's up platform at the head of an express service to Euston circa 1922. In the background can be seen the Midland Railway's High Level station and on the left, the lift used to transport parcels and mail from one station to the other. Built at Crewe works in January 1913, No 82 was later renumbered by the LMS as No 5380 in September 1927 as part of the LMS' renumbering scheme. Following the introduction of the Patriot, Black Fives and Jubilee classes in the early 1930s No 82 was again renumbered in to the 'duplicate' list by adding 20000 to its number becoming 25380 in which form it served out its days until February 1937 when it was withdrawn for scrapping by Crewe works.
