LMS Route: Rugby to Tamworth

Looking along the rebuilt down platform towards Nuneaton with the disused No 1 Signal Cabin still evident on 2nd June 1962. Overhead catenary required many bridges to be rebuilt along the West Coast main line. When this bridge was a rail bridge with a station on top this created a number of challenges. As can be seen above, the bridge has had to be raised some two feet which required the construction of a concrete plinth on top of the existing brickwork and then a new deck on top to carry the former MR Derby to Birmingham line over the Trent Valley line.
