LMS Route: Rugby to Tamworth

Another posed photograph taken to show the transport facilities available at Tamworth Good Depot. In this view two 3-wheeled 'Scarab' type tractor units can be seen plus a four-wheel tractor on the left, the latter being used for heavier loads. The men are draymen and are, from left to right, Emanuel Wright, Sam Gilbert, Ernie Wakelin, Tommy Dugdale and Horace Penny. British Railways finally stopped using horses in 1959 expanding their fleet of articulated trucks. The horses are wearing cart or vanner harnesses.
