Ex-LNWR 1P 2-4-0 Precedent class No 5062 'Sirs Alexander Cockburn' doubleheads ex-LNWR 4-6-0 5XP Claughton class No 5967 'Lance Corporal JA Christie VC' on a down express circa 1928. Built at Crewe works as LNWR No 506 in July 1896 No 5062 received its LMS number in June 1928 and remained in service until February 1932 when it was withdrawn from to be scrapped at Crewe works. Also built at Crewe works but as LNWR No 1407 in February 1920, No 5967 length of useful life was much less because after receiving its LMS number in February 1927 it was withdrawn in November 1934 to be scrapped at Crewe works. Steve Weston, who works with Network Rail (and is also LNWR Society Newsletter Editor) writes, 'this was taken from Bridge 9B. On the left are the Webb Standard railway cottages (Fog Cottages) the footbridge is Bridge 9A. Bridge 9B replaced an earlier level crossing which I believe went across the bottom of the rear gardens of Fog Cottages. Footbridge 9A is still a popular location for railway photography'.
