Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5XP Jubilee class No 45737 'Atlas' at the head of an up express to Euston station on 15th March 1959

Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5XP Jubilee class No 45737 'Atlas' at the head of an up express to Euston station on 15th March 1959. Because of engineering work between Wolverhampton and Soho on the main line to New Street, the 4:10pm Wolverhampton to Euston had travelled via Bescot and Aston to New Street station. As this diversion meant the train was facing the 'wrong way', north not south, the train was routed to depart New Street for Winson Green Junction and then take the Soho Loop via Handsworth Junction, Perry Barr and Aston before continuing to Euston via the line to Stechford. Built at Crewe works in November 1936 No 45737 was to remain in service until May 1964 when it was withdrawn from 9D Newton Heath shed in Manchester.
