A pre-First World War view looking towards Lichfield Road overbridge and beyond to Aston shed. The station was built on an embankment which required the weight of the station to be kept to a minimum. Therefore whilst the platforms are brickfaced the surface, which would normally be paved or cobbled with gravel infill, are finished with timber planking laid at 90° to the platform edge.
