Rugby's breakdown crane, under the supervision of Mr Walton, is attached to the rear coach in preparation for its removal

Close up of image 'lnwrar3' showing Rugby's breakdown crane, under the supervision of Mr Walton, attached to the rear coach in preparation for its removal. The formation of the train is of interest with the steam-powered crane being attached to Vans, the second of which has sloping sides. It is possible that the jib rested between the two sides with a flat truck in between. The coach would have been used to transporting the breakdown gang and provide mess facilities whilst on site. The photograph is nor clear enough to identify if there were jacks in place to prevent the crane from toppling although the timber alongside suggests that they were there and were packed underneath the jack to spread the load. There is however clear evidence that a timber sleeper has been positioned under the corner the buffer beam (presumably repeated on the other corner) to stop the crane tilting forward.
