LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton

Beechwood Tunnel: lnwrbeech1293

Ex-LMS 2P 4-4-0 No 40646 is seen at the head of the 5:25pm Coventry to Birmingham service having just left Beechwood tunnel on 27th May 1956. The bridge seen above the train is carrying Hodges Lane over the railway whilst on the right is Berkswell's colour light distant signal. Built as LMS No 646 by Crewe works in September 1931, No 40646 was renumbered by British Railways in June 1948 which it carried in service until May 1962 when it was withdrawn from Bescot Shed to be scrapped by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
