LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton
Berkswell and Balsall Common: lnwrberk3012
Front of the British Railways Third Class Cheap Day Ticket
from Marston Green to Berkswell dated 24th March 1955. The return fare was 1
shilling and 4 pence (written as 1/4) which is slightly less than seven new
(decimal) pence. In image 'lnwrcov574' the fares
from Coventry to the stations along the Birmingham line are listed and show the
fare to Marston Green as being two shillings (2/-) or 10 new pence and the fare
to Berkswell as being one shilling and two pence (1/2) which is slightly more
than 6 new pence. The eight pence (-/8) difference in fares being charged
between the two station presumably reflects the railways' market monopoly at
the time.
