Ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 No 44862 is seen passing under Hill Street bridge as it storms towards No 5 Signal Cabin at the head of a Wolverhampton express in 1953. The trainspotters on the left are standing at the very West end of Platform 1 formerly known as the Stour Valley bays. The 2-6-4T to the right of the signal next to the Stour Valley bays is standing on a short head shunt siding. Built at Crewe works in January 1945 No 44862 was to remain in service until July 1967 when it was withdrawn from Kingmoor shed in Carlisle to be scrapped during December 1967 by J McWilliam & Sons of Shettleston.
