Midland Railway 2P No 506 is seen emerging from below Hill
Street bridge as it enters Platform 4 whilst at the head of an up express from
the Gloucester direction circa 1922. To the right of the locomotive is the
retaining wall to Queens drive and on the platform are railway offices for
station staff. Built by Sharp Stewart Limited in October 1899 No 506 was to
remain in service until November 1949 when it was withdrawn from Toton shed to
be scrapped by Derby works.
