The short sidings of the turntable had pits between the rails to allow crews the opportunity to oil underneath and to clean the fireboxes of the locomotives. On the top right of the plan adjacent to the approach to the Stour Valley platforms are the Lamproom and footwarmer buildings used to service and hold the stock of these very necessary carriage accessories.
