View of an unidentified LNWR locomotive on a local passenger service approaching Clifton Mills station as it passes the goods sidings. The station master's house is seen on the right and is a large building despite the low importance of the station. It was railway practice for more than one employee to be provided accommodation so in addition to the station master and his family and in all likelihood a second employee, possibly a signalman, would be boarded with the family. The passenger gate by the crossing is not directly controlled by the signal box and neither were the gates being opened by station staff on foot. This is the only photograph known to the author of the siding and is a puzzle insofar as the village of Clifton was in itself small, without any industry and whilst only about a mile from the station it was also only approximately three miles from Rugby.
