View of the special load being carried on a pair of bogies sandwiched between two LMS brake vans behind ex-LMS 2-8-0 8F No 48716. Whilst it was more than probable that the girder was bolted to the bogies the top would still need to be braced by the heavy duty chains. The speed of the train would have been relatively slow due to the high centre of gravity and vulnerability to tipping. The presence of a guard in each brake van indicates the extra care being taken during the transportation of the railway bridge girder.
