British Railway built 2MT 2-6-0 No 46520 is seen standing at Platform 1 facing towards Birmingham after completing shunting duties in the new parcels depot. The new parcel depot, with arched roofs, can be seen immediately behind the locomotive and was light years away in both comfort and design compared to the former facility located at the Birmingham end of platform one. Built at Swindon works to the LMS design in February 1953 it was one of the final 25 of the class (46503 to 46527) to built at Swindon and, being initially allocated to the Western Region, consequently carried the GWR-type vacuum ejector and firehole doors. The Swindon locomotives were turned out, initially, in lined black. Under Hank's Western Region regime, some received lined green livery as they passed through works the rest carried black livery although No 46520 is so covered in grime its impossible to guess what colour its painted. .It remained in service until May 1967 when it was withdrawn from Northwich shed of the Cheshire Lines Committee (CLC) section to be scrapped in November 1967 by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
