An early view of the demolition of Coventry station seen from Warwick Road bridge looking south to Rugby. The parcel depot is still in place but much of the northern part of the up platform's buildings have been removed from the depot to the passenger footbridge. To the left of the footbridge a large section of temporary roof supported by scaffolding has been erected. On the right it would appear that all of the down platform's buildings have been removed leaving only the LNWR lower quadrant signal. The L&BR water column seen in image 'lnwrcov615' which stood next to the signal has also been removed but in this instance to be preserved where it is now on show at the National Railway Museum. The locomotive passing through on an up service is ex-LMS 'Black 5' 4-6-0 No 45431 which was built by the Armstrong Whitworth Company in November 1937. The locomotive was to remain in service until December 1937 when it was withdrawn from 8F Spring Branch shed in Wigan.
