Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5MT No 45073 passes through Coventry on the
fast line with an up parcels train in the late 1950s. No 45073 was one of
Stanier's mixed traffic masterpieces, a member of a class of eight hundred and
forty-two locomotives known to enthusiasts as 'Black Fives'. This was to
differentiate them from his passenger express class, the Jubilees, which
carried LMS Crimson Lake livery. Built at Crewe works in June 1935, No 45073
was to remain in service until the end of steam on British Railways, being
withdrawn in August 1968 from 10D Lockstock Hall shed to be scrapped.
