View of part of the former cab area to the Grand Junction Railway's arrival platform showing the ad-hoc extension in 1968. The ornate columns in the foreground originally fronted onto the cab yard which lay behind Franklin's Screen Wall. These supported a short cantilevered canopy which was replaced by an additional roof covering the open yard when the station was converted for use as a goods yard. This was achieved in the simplest and cheapest way by inserting new beams under the short canopy. The wooden edging and the support of the short canopy can be seen in the upper right of this photograph. A siding runs adjacent to the wall with a turntable located at the arched opening, to the right of the hydraulically powered fixed crane.
