Third interior view of the top floor of the infirmary stable block at the back of Top Yard 30 years after the last horse left. Richard Foster writes, 'The stable area also contained shops for the preparation and fitting of the large number of horseshoes required to keep the horses' feet in good condition and fit for work. Other shops presided over by a foreman saddler, repaired and prepared harness. A large number of men were needed in the stables to look after the horses. One of the stable blocks contained a house for the stable foreman (originally built as the yard's detective's house); this was a curious building which looked tiny from the front, with hardly any windows. The door was set at an angle in the corner of the yard with a small clock above it, whilst inside there was a small entrance lobby with a kitchen and living room beyond, and a couple of bedrooms upstairs.
