A close up of the three ton Foden steam lorry bearing the fleet No 8A and the registration number M9699

A close up of the three ton Foden steam lorry bearing fleet No 8A and the registration number M9699 built in July 1918. The lorry is in lined black livery with the LNWR crest on the side in front of the cab and was photographed whilst part of a parade of LNWR vehicles in Birmingham arranged to recruit women to the railway service. The girls are in their Sunday best and are standing beneath a banner stating 'We clean the engines' so its presumed the girls are cleaners at one of the nearby sheds. The building behind is the side of the original L & B station.
