A 1930s view of the island platform's building accommodating passenger facilities and a booking office

A 1930s view of the island platform's building accommodating passenger facilities and a booking office. Behind are the carriage sidings used by the LNWR and its successors to store coaching stock between peak periods and overnight. Platform 2 is on the left and Platform 3 is on the right. The island platform's canopy was very distinctive as it covered the platform area adjacent to the building from platform edge to platform edge. At best the building was one third of the width of the island platform meaning that each platform's canopy was as wide. The booking office was located in the end gable wall and has a 'lean-to' erected in front and above the booking office window to protect passengers from inclement weather. Note too that the telephone and telegraph wires are terminating on the side of the canopy on this structure too.
