LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Harborne

Harborne Station: lnwrh68a

Close up of image 'lnwrh68' showing the station building and at the end of the platform a horsebox stabled at the horse carriage landing. This close up shows a lady with her son and push chair sheltering in the entrance to the ladies waiting room. Most railway companies offered separate facilities for the fairer sex and their children and this waiting room would have had en-suite toilet facilities too. The waiting room alluded to by the Booking Office and Waiting Room sign offered facilities to gentlemen or families. The two bench seats appear to be deeper in the seat than normal with scroll ironwork framing and would have been supplied by the Harborne Railway Company it being independent up to 1923. The LNWR only being responsible for the supply of locomotive power and vehicles for the carriage of goods and passengers. Note the scales for the weighing of parcels and large items of luggage as well as the large wheeled porters barrow adjacent to what appears to be a parcels shed.
