Robin Leach states in his book Rails to Kenilworth and Milverton that in the 1870s the land now occupied by the Brickworks, together with other land such as Kenilworth Common, was designated for the use by the town's poor to grow potatoes although the practice had ceased by the early part of the 20th century.
