View of ex-LNWR 4-6-0 Prince of Wales class No 25673 'Lusitania' and LMS 4P 4-4-0 'Compound' No 1116 are seen standing at platform two and in the exchange sidings respectively circa 1936. LMS 4-4-0 No 1116 is carrying a reporting number on the smoke door indicating that it is on a passenger service rather than a goods service whilst the driver is talking to a member of the station staff. The Compound was built by the LMS at Horwich in July 1925 and lasted in service for 32 years before being withdrawn from Trafford Park shed as British Railways No 41116 in November 1957 to be scrapped at Derby works the following month.
