Ex-LMS 6P5F 2-6-0 'Crab' No 42944 is seen standing at platform two at the head of a local Leamington to Coventry service on 22nd Aug 1953. Built at Crewe works in December 1932 as LMS No 2944, it ran in service for just over 30 years before it was withdrawn in April 1963 from Birkenhead shed and then scrapped in June 1963 at Horwich works.

Known to railwaymen as 'Crabs', so called because the high inclined cylinders when in motion were said to be reminiscent of crab's pincer movement, were designed by Hughes the LMS' first CME. However he retired before the design was fully finished giving Fowler the opportunity of making some changes, the most notable being the Midland tender which was significantly narrower than the cab giving it an odd appearance when viewed from the rear.
