A view of Monument Lane shed still very busy in 1959 and just two years before it was closed to steam from the start of the summer timetable in 1961. The steel wagons to the left of the shed would have been used to cart away the clinker and the ash from the ash plant and disposal road, located out of view and to the right of the camera. The locomotives are recorded as being, from right to left: an unidentified ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 locomotive with ex-MR 3F 0-6-0 No 43822 standing behind; ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 No 44863, with an unidentified ex-LMS 4-6-0 Jubilee at its rear; followed by unidentified locomotives - ex-LMS Stanier 2-6-4T with an ex-LNWR 0-8-0 standing in front of the 2-6-4T's smokebox, and two more ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 on the extreme left.
