Another view of Monument Lane shed on 7th October 1962 some eight months after its closure to steam. In the distance on the left are several steel bodied open wagons standing along side the former water softening tanks. On the right the remains of the white painted internal wall of the shed can be seen. Monument Lane's shed was, like so many across the country, in a very poor state after the Second World War due to the damage to its structure caused by the soot, smoke and steam over many years. In the instance of Monument Lane the action taken was to remove part of the roof and to shorten it but leave the external wall in place.
