LNWR 0-8-0 class G2a No 9070 is seen standing alongside the up Ashby bay coupled to a full brake and another member of the same class

Ex-LNWR 0-8-0 class G2a No 9070 is seen standing alongside the up Ashby bay coupled to a full brake and another member of the same class in the 1930s. The Ashby bay was built in 1913 by modifying platform 5 and was required to minimise the movement of traffic from Ashby crossing the lines to the original bay at platform 1. Built at Crewe works in October 1899 as a Webb designed class A compound locomotive No 9070 was rebuilt by Crewe works in the guise seen above and remained in service until November 1962 when it was withdrawn from Bushbury shed to be cut up in March 1963 at Crewe works.
