View of the original Nuneaton station's down platform showing the ornate station building and its short canopy section circa 1870. The canopy was built with cast iron columns and beams with lead flashing and covering on a timber roof. The station was rebuilt during the 1870s becoming the largest station on the Trent Valley line. Peter Lee writes 'It was the epitome of a picturesque country station built with just the two platforms at a time when Nuneaton had a population of just under 8000 people. In this condition it survived for 25 years or so before increasing traffic and patronage required a larger station to be replace it. We are looking north in this view with the station staff assembled for their picture to be taken.'
