Ex-LNWR 2F 0-6-0 No 8488, known to railwaymen as a Cauliflower, is seen shunting in the shed with the branch lines to Coventry in the foreground. The locomotive is on the siding that ran through the yard to the Fielding & Johnson Mill which according to Peter Lee in his book on the Trent Valley line was built in 1887 and was known as the 'Cotton Hole' sidings. It was shunted some three times a week by the shed shunt engine until 1948 when the works converted to electrical power. Designed by FW Webb and built as No 1743 by Crewe works in May 1899 No 8488 was withdrawn from service in December 1932 from Nuneaton shed to be scrapped at Crewe works.
