An unidentified ex-LNWR 5ft 6in tank locomotive crosses the tracks at Ashby Junction with a Class 2 Ordinary Passenger train in the early 1920s. When Arthur Camwell took this photo he had the opportunity of doing so from the steps of Ashby Junction box. Its an ex LNWR 5' 6" tank on its way over the Ashby & Nuneaton joint with a train that divides into two at Shackerstone. One portion going forward to Burton, the other going across the Charnwood Forest line to Loughborough Derby Road. Passenger services were poorly patronised on this line and economy measures were bought in during the early years of the 1900s with the introduction of steam railcars working the Charnwood Forest service, but things did not improve and the passenger service was withdrawn in 1931. Excursion traffic still used the line into the 1960s. Stops were still made for excursionists at the surviving stations. The old footbridge did not appear in enthusiasts photos as it often was used as a good vantage point for taking photos.
