Close up of image 'lnwrrm2437' showing the southern elevation of Rugby's No 7 signal cabin with the 'GEC' works in the background. Careful observation will reveal a siding passing to the left (rear) of the cabin. This led to siding No 2 and to the private siding of Williams and Robinson. The 'sentry' box on the right is a fogman's hut occupied when fog limited the vision of drivers to the extent that they could not see the signals. Fogmen, normally recruited from the Permanent Way gang, would be strategically positioned along the railway in order to place detonators on the line, the number of which indicated to the driver the state of the signals ahead.
