Ex-LNWR 0-8-0 G2A No 49078 is seen standing on shed alongside Sulzer Type 2 Diesel Locomotive Bo-Bo D5012

Ex-LNWR 0-8-0 G2a No 49078 is seen standing on shed alongside Sulzer Type 2 Diesel Locomotive Bo-Bo D 5012. The date of the photograph is uncertain and whilst the G2a is recorded as being withdrawn in December 1962 the Type 2, later to be classified under TOPs as a Class 24 locomotive, wasn't based at Rugby until January 1965 where it remained until March 1966 when it was transferred to Bescot shed. The overhead catenary would indicate that the photograph was taken in the middle 1960s. Built in January 1910 by Crewe works as a G Class locomotive LNWR No 2654, the locomotive was renumbered by the LMS as No 9077 in August 1927, followed by being upgraded to a G1 Class locomotive in December 1931 and then a G2a³ locomotive in June 1939. It gained its British Railways number in June 1949.
