Within a few years the modesty screen, which is thought to have been erected when the station was rebuilt in the 1880s, was removed as is evident in image 'lnwrrm3319a'. A quick method of identifying whether its the up or down platform is the relationship of the clock to the large Rugby station sign (see image 'lnwrrm2618' for a full view) or the Ladies Waiting Room Second Class and the First Class Waiting. If the clock is in front of the Rugby sign or behind the signs to the two waiting rooms its the down platform. Postcards referring to 'Northern' or 'Southern' platforms are referring to the direction of travel so these are down and up platforms respectively.
