A posed photograph of the full compliment of L&NWR station staff at Rugby's 1885 station

A posed photograph of the full compliment of L&NWR station staff at Rugby's 1885 station. The photograph was taken under the canopy at the main entrance to the station as is evident from the windows either side of the gated archway and the brick and stonework above the archway (see image 'lnwrrm897'. Stephen Weston writes 'The two windows were hidden by a plain brick facade but the rooms were still there - the roofs held up by pit props. There were doors into these rooms just inside the subway. I have a drawing showing these rooms. The iron gates were there at the end. I tried to find someone who might have them but suspect they went for scrap when the new ticket hall was built. The station master is the gentleman in the top hat - Rugby being a 'top hat' station - lesser stations wore caps'.
