LMS 7F 0-8-0 'Austin 7' No 9673 stands on the roads in front of Rugby's shed waiting for its next turn of duty

LMS 7F 0-8-0 'Austin 7' No 9673 stands on the roads in front of Rugby's shed waiting for its next turn of duty circa 1933. Derby design office's attempt to produce a Midlandised version of the LNWR 0-8-0 G2a was never successful because lessons were never learned regarding poor draughting, bearings and cylinder design that had failed on earlier designs. The cylinders above the boiler was an ill-fated attempt to address the efficiency of the engines by pre-heating the water before entering the boiler. Built at Crewe Works in July 1932 No 9673 was withdrawn from service in February 1951 from Farnley Junction shed for scrapping by Crewe works.
