A 1949 view of Portland Road overbridge looking in the direction of Rotton Park Road station with the brewery sidings seen under the archway. Pat Whitehouse, the photographer, would have been standing on the right just the other side of the overbridge when he took the image seen in 'lnwrrp2185'. This was the Harborne end of the junction with the breweries sidings. The 1931 Appendix gave the instructions to guards or shunters that: The wheels of the first wagon must in each case be spragged before the shunt is made into the siding, and the engine must not be detached until the wagons have come to a stand, and the brake on each wagon pinned down. Before releasing any brakes or taking out any sprags from the wagons that are about to be brought out of the siding on to the main line the guard must make absolutely certain that the wagons are all coupled together and that they are coupled to the engine.
