LMS Route: Leamington to Weedon

Southam & Long Itchington Station: lnwrs&l1323

Looking towards Weeden from the Leamington end of the down platform with the up platform and passenger buildings on the left. As the line was built as single track passing loops needed to be provided. The adjacent cement works would have generated a lot of traffic compared to elsewhere on the route and Southam & Long Itchington was an obvious place to locate the first of the passing loops. This photograph therefore gives the impression that the station was situated on a two track line. The passenger buildings on both the up and down platforms were substantial when compared to other stations along the route. At a later date the far building was demolished indicating that the volume of passengers never achieved the anticipated levels.
