LMS Route: Birmingham-Soho-Perry Barr-Birmingham

Soho East Junction: lnwrsej2277

View looking along the line opened on 1st April 1889 towards Perry Barr and across the Perrot Street road bridge

Looking along the line across the Perrot Street road bridge towards Walsall via Perry Barr which opened on 1st April 1889. John Fancote writes, the bridge crossing Perrott Street is Bridge Number 16 on the 'Soho Perry Barr Line'. In the distance to the left of the bridge and partly hidden behind a tree, is the ex-GWR Queens Head Sidings Signal Box (see image 'gwrqhy1997')on the ex-GWR Snow Hill to Wolverhampton route. (Note the LNWR and GCR described their accommodation for signalmen as a 'signal cabin' whilst the GWR, MR and most other railways, described it as a 'signal box'). The photographer DJ Norton is standing on the lines which ran to Soho Soap Works Junction, whilst in the foreground curving away to the right behind the photographer are the lines connecting to Winson Green Junction. The signals and points were controlled from Soho East Junction signal cabin which lies behind the photographer in the 'V' of the junction (as seen in image 'lnwrsej2278a'). The photograph was one of several along the route taken by DJ Norton on 1st June 1962.
