Some of the wagons have their doors open providing a view of the practice of how rail to road transhipment for this type of traffic was handled. It was common practice for the wagons to be used for both the carrying of coal and temporary storage. The coal would be bagged and weighed direct from the wagon on to the horse-drawn road vehicle and then distributed to local households.
