LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton
Tile Hill Station: lnwrth2339
An unidentified ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 gets a special working
under way after being stopped at a signal at Tile Hill on a Sunday in 1958. For
several years in the 1950s Sunday services were diverted from Rugby along the
Coventry to Birmingham line because of engineering works on the Trent Valley
route carrying the West Coast main line. Coronation and Britannia classes, as
well as rarer Scots and Jubilees, were regularly seen through Tile Hill
much to the joy of young trainspotters. I can only think that I took this
picture as the train was moving slowly after the signal stop.
