Ex-LMS 5XP 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 45587 'Baroda' is seen on a down express passing Winson Green Junction signal cabin on 9th July 1956. The photographer is looking towards New Street station and is standing in between the tracks originating from Perry Barr on the left and the lines from Wolverhampton on the right. At this point a loop line or through siding commenced running through to Soho station (see image lnwrsoho2199b'), the switch blades of which can be seen on the right immediately in front of the Jubilee locomotive. The signal seen on the left of the train is in the 'on' position meaning that the driver of a train travelling from Harborne Junction to Perry Barr has permission to proceed past the junction. Built as LMS No 5587 by the North British Locomotive Company in December 1934, No 45587 was to remain in service until December 1962 when it was withdrawn from 24L Carnforth shed.
