Another view of Lifford station's long abandoned second building which closed on after a relatively short life. In all probability the deviation opened in 1885 was probably needed because the original route had to pass under the Camp Hill line requiring a relatively steep incline before it joined the Camp Hill line to Kings Norton. Whereas this might not have been a taxing problem for passenger services, it would be for goods traffic from Central Goods Depot. Prior to the Lifford Curve being opened on 16th May 1892 any goods traffic from the Derby or Leicester lines needing to avoid New Street (or returning) would have to reverse at Kings Norton which originally meant using the incline.
