LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham

Barnt Green: mrbg619

Looking towards Birmingham with the fast lines in the middle and the two slow or goods lines on either side

Looking northwest towards Birmingham with the Evesham branch entering from the right, the fast lines in the middle and the two slow or goods lines on either side circa 1949. Bob Essery in his book states that 'enginemen at Saltley referred to them as north and west roads when describing the routes they travelled from Birmingham. The Evesham branch was often described as "down the ditch", derived from the name Redditch'. The Evesham branch had a facing connection for down trains from the main line. The repeater signal on the post on the left was sited to ensure enginemen had full visibility at all times unobstructed by the overbridge. The revised junction caused by the quadrupling of the lines towards Birmingham has seen the removal of the wires fixed to the down main platform referred to in image 'mrbg614a' and 'mrbg614'.
