LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham

The driver of ex-LMS Ivatt Mogul 2-6-0 No 43049 is about to collect the tablet by thrusting his hand through the centre of the hoop. Bob Essery recounts that when tablet were exchanged at speed it was normal practice for the fireman, who usually did the exchange, to throw the tablet on the ground in front of the signalman. The raised platform was to make the exchange easier and the light to provide some, if not often poor, illumination at night. 18th June 1959
