Ex-LMS 4-6-0 Jubilee class, No 45682 'Tralfagar' is seen at the head of a Class 'A' down express service as it comes off the Midland lines from New Street station on 8th May 1955. Whilst most services for the South West originating from New Street would use the West Suburban Railway route, and therefore depart from the other end of New Street, it was not unknown for traffic to be use the pre-1885 route via Camp Hill due to engineering work or during holiday periods. As the photograph was taken on a Sunday and with two express services passing each other in opposite directions it would appear that both are being diverted due to engineering work. Richard Strange writes 'built at Crewe works in January 1936 No 45682 remained in service until it left Bath shed (where it had failed and been condemned) to go to the breaker (Bird's of Morriston in Swansea) on 15th October 1964!
