Birmingham New Street - Southern Approaches: mrbhm_sa2317b
Close up of image 'mrbhm_sa2317' showing Landor Street Junction
signal box and the water tower supplying the water columns to Lawley Street
Goods Station. Adjacent to the signal box is a water column which according to
Bob Essery in Volume Two of DJ Norton's pictorial survey of Railways in the
West Midlands was frequently used by passing trains and was also where
Saltley men, the driver, fireman and guard, were changed. The train crews were
booked to complete the walk in ten minutes from Saltley shed to the relief
cabin that stood adjacent to the signal box.
