Close up view of image 'mrcgy129' showing the horse-drawn
vehicles employed by the MR for delivering goods to its customers or its
customers' customers. The offices erected on the triangular land surrounded by
Suffolk Street, Holliday Street and Allport Street can be seen on the right in
the distance. The concept of transport hubs with centralised distribution
points is therefore not a new or modern phenomena it was at the heart of the
railway transport system. The covered wagons (note the rigidity of the covering
over the hoops) were employed for the perishable traffic whilst the open wagons
were employed on traffic that either utilised their own containers such as
barrels or were non-perishable.
